I caved and joined Ipsy

I’ve never really been big on makeup; not because I didn’t like it, but because for the longest time I had no idea what the heck I was doing. Anything I know was from watching hours of Youtube instructional videos during college, just to be able to do basic makeup that didn’t look like it was done by a 12 year old.

While I’ve developed a greater interest on makeup, affordability has always been an issue. My $3 eye-shadow palette and $5 mascara is a large testament to that. The only exception to my ‘cheap’ makeup expenditures is my pressed-powder foundation, and that’s only because my skin doesn’t take well to the cheap stuff.

I like the idea of exploring with makeup more, particularly with the more natural-based stuff, but it’s difficult to justify a large makeup budget when it would practically take up our non-savings, non-bill related funds available each month.

A few months ago, I started seeing these Ipsy Glam bags posted to my friend’s walls. The idea intrigued me, but I didn’t look into it, figuring it would be expensive. But when a friend posted last month that for a couple of days, there would be no waiting list to join, hubs and I decided for the price, it might be worth it to at least get some upgraded makeup that didn’t come from the cheap section at the drugstore.

I received my first Ipsy Glam bag today, and it was kind of exciting. It came in bright, pink, bubble wrap packaging (extra points in my books… I’m just a little obsessed with pink), a cute makeup bag, and my first few items.

While I’ve never heard of any of these brands before, I’m excited to try them out, and to spoil myself a little bit. This is the first subscription-based thing I have ever applied to, and so far, I’m kind of liking it.

Have you ever spoiled yourself with a subscription box/bag? What was it, and what led you to it?
